NOTES FROM TRENTHAM.
[TMB rmBSS Special ferric*.] WELLINGTON, October 22. The weather was fine and clear for training work at Trentham this morning and there was a deeided nip in the air early. The centre of the trial grass provided good going. Proceedings were on ths slow sids.
Glare showed to much better advantage than Battle Torque over four furlongs in 51*. Glare ia working well, and with any luek may soon land aome money. ~ .. H_ Telford used the half mile on the eoorae proper, Buakiseed finishing in front of the two year old Open Cheque in'so 3-5, and hitting out well. Historic did a strong working gallop. Baaonli went three-quarter pace over six furlongs. Commendation got away too well for Hynanna, who was to have accompanied him over seven furlongs on the eourae proper. Neither was extended, Commendation running 1.41. On the outside of the course proper horses run approximately 50 yards over the distance. Panther did an easy gaUop, running home the last three in 41. Vertigtrn worked on the sand, putting plenty of dash into his tssk. Tatisker and Coont Palatine also went on the sand, the two year-old Teaterden exercising in the centre of the eooxs*.
Oval, Oratrix, and Boyal Duke were restricted to easy tasks. Princess Pam and Bir Limond ran four furlongs in 56, Tourist doing seven in 1.31 3-3.
Babbi worked on the sand with Imateagirl. Babbi worked very freely and is all the better for his race on Satorday. He claims two engagement* oa the opening day at Trentham, being In the Wainui and Wellington Racing Club Handicaps. He will start in the latter event.
Concentrate ran seven furlongs, being assisted by Dolomite over the first part, and brought home by Grand Blow. Concentrate did 1.3 a easily. . Cimabue covered the same distance ia i.35.
Treaham (A. Jenkins) gave a good exhibition over six hurdles, Modern (N. C. Trillo) going over three. Kilmezzo, from a slow beginning, ran three furlongs in 37, Agrestic finishing slightly ahead of Lazy Bene rn the same time.
After breakfast Teheka ran a fart mile in 1.42, being brought home by Dainty Ways. Latin Quarter, Speed Light, and Lucky Light did not work fast. W. H. Jones w« riding work at Trentham this morning and he will have the mounts on Royal Game, Coon Song, and First Money on Saturday. A. D. Webster relates an amusing incident connected with the win of First Acre in the Squatters' Handicap at Bandwick. The Acre gelding had just ran the ten furlongs in 2.4;, and oa being unsaddled a smart and expensive rug was thrown over him. As Webster wss leading him away a voice from the crowd ealled out loudly: "Where's the split sack, Doug!'' T. Webster, who returned from Sydney by the Mafaeno, has been engaged to' ride Merry Mint, Tonrist, Hunting Cry, and Bunkissed at Trent ham on Saturday.
Princess Betty was withdrawn from the Taita Handicap on Saturday.
RIONSCLP CRUSHES RIDER. (nm» smass asssoatios—si sucraic TaUtOaAm—COFT»IGHT.) (Received October C2nd, T.T..3 p.m.) SYDNEY, October 22. Lawrence Morrison, a New Zealander, was seriously injured while exercising Bionscnp at Bandwick. The horse reared, then rolled on the rider, crushing him. He was taken to hospital, where !t was found that a leg was fractured and that he had also received internal injuries.—Australian Press Association.
