ANNUAL COMPETITIONS, Tha Canterbury Band of Hope Union annual competitions were continued in the Durham street Hall last evening, before a good attendance. The judges were Mr J. Voss (elocution), Mr T. Harker (club and dumb-bell competitions), Mrs Graham (vocal), Mr A. Bell and Mrs Graham (vocal scholarship). Results:— Dialogue, Section 1., own selection; Classes A, B, C—St. Paul's, 88 per cent., 1 Also competed—Sydenham and Linwood 1.0. R. Vocal Solo, Class C, boys; own selection— Norman Forward (St. Paul's), 86 per cent., 1. Also competed—Pat Clements (Sydenham) highly commended. Club Competition, open—Linwood 1.0. R., 77 per cent., 1. Also competed—Philipson 1.0. R. Song in Character, Section II; own selection—Miretta Shier (St. Paul's), 85 per cent., 1; Edna Henderson (Philipson 1.0. R.), 82 per cent., 2; Rona Hill (Edgeware), 80 per cent., 3. Also competed—Ewart Douglas (St. Paul's), Nyra Wright (St. Paul's), Jean Sinclair (Knox). Action Song, Section 11, Class B; own selection—New Brighton Methodist, "Dolls for Sale," 81 per cent., 1; Sydenham, "Happy Hours," 79 per cent., 2. Also competed—St. Paul's, "Oh, Soldier, Soldier." Pianoforte Solo, Class C; Union selection, "Interlude" (Chaminade) —Ethel Foster (Hope of Opawa 1.0. R.) equal third with Hilda Johnstone, 81 per cent, (omitted from previous report). The first demonstrtation concert will he held in the Choral Hall this evening. The programme will include tableau. "The Nation's Attack on Alcohol," Knox; Wand Drill, Knox boys; Maypole Dance, Sydenham; winner vocal scholarship, and presentation of shields and medals.
