CHRISTCHURCH STOCK EXCHANGE.
Markets generally were brighter on call yesterday, although there was an obvious reluctance on the part of buyers to do business. Several stocks showed a further easing tendency, while recovered slightly. Transactions. exclusive of vestibule business, included: £2500 N.Z. Government 4£ per cent. 1930 Stock. 200 Goldsbrough, Mort 154 United Building Society (cum dividend). 200 Devonport Ferry. 800 N.Z. Refrigerating Co. (10s of) Carlton Brewery (cum dividend). 100 Staples Brewery. 300 Beath and Company (Is paid cum dividend). £IOO N.Z. Farmers' Co-op., 6$ per cent. Stock, 1939. 300 Mahakipawa Gt) Id fields. 200 Winding Creek (6d paid). New Zealand Government per cent. 1930 Stock was firm with business at £99 7s 6d. Other Government issues were firm at recent levels. A late sale of National Bank of New Zealand shares on 25th inst. was reported at £6 17s. and there were further sellers at that price, buyers at £6 16s. Quotations for Union Bank of Australia shares. Bank of New South Wales, and English, Scottish, and Australian Bank showed an easier market. Goldsbrough, Morts had dealings on the morning call at 43s lOd, and on the afternoon call at 445, buyers staying in at the higher price, sellers asking 44s 2d. Dalgety and Company shares eased to £l4 17s 6d sellers, £l4 10s 6d buyers. An odd parcel ot United Building Society shares was released at 15s lOd, and more were wanted at that figure, sellers at 16s 3d. Devonport Ferry shares remained at 225, market closing 21s 6d buyers, 22s 3d sellers. New Zealand Refrigerating Company, 10s raid, shares had dealings at 6s 6d and 6s 7d: closing quotations 6s 6d sellers. 6s od buyers. Kaiapoi Woollens fullv paid shares eased to 18s 5d sellers, 12s buyers. Carlton Brewery shares, cum. dividend, were taken at 465, and Staples at 545, both showing an easing on previous _ business. Buyers of Ward's shares raised their bids to 30s 7d without attracting sellers. Beath and Company, Is paid, shares were fractionally weaker with dealings at 9s 9d, market closing 9s 7d buyers, 9s lOd sellers. Sellers of British Tobaccos reduced their limits to 49s 2d buyers at 48s 6d. New Zealand Farmers' Co-op., per cent.l 939 Stock, changed hands at £95 10s. Mahakipawa Goldfields shares remained at 3d. sellers and business, buyers at 2£d. Winding Creek, 6d paid, shares were released at Is 9d, closing quotations Id on either side. Other stocks showing an easing tendency were: Burns Philp. Electrolytic Zinc, and Hold en's Motors.

There was a moderate offering of greasy merinoes, principally Continental style. The improved tone was maintained. Prices were unchanged. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., have received the following cablegram from London under date 25th inst: — Wool Sales—As compared with last sales, closing rate prices are lower about 15 per cent, for greasy merino, fine greasy crossbred, and about 10 per cent, to 15 per cent, for fine scoured crossbred, fine crossbred slipe, about 7i per cent, to 10 per cent, lower for medium crossbred, and 7i per cent, for coarse crossbred and scoured merino. The market is steadier than it has besn. Dalgety and Company, Limited, have received the following cablegram from their London office, dated September 25th: Wool sales continue with good attendance of buyers, but competition irregular. Better demand at lower level but prices show no sign of recovery As compared with closing rates of last series,, greasy fine merino 10 per cent, lower, other descriptions of greasy merino 15 per cent 20 per cent, lower, scoured fine merino 10 per cant to 15 per cent, lower, average and inferior scoured merino 20 per rent lower, except New Zealand scoured merino, which is 7J to 10 per cent, lower; greasy fine crossbred 15 per cent lower, greasy medium crossbred 7$ per cent, to 10 per cent, lower. Cheese —White 935, 945. Market quiet. TALLOW. The Bank of New Zealand has received the following advice from its London office under date 25th instant: — Tallow —There is a fair demand. Current quotations: Good mutton 40s to 40s 6d per cwt, good beef 39s to 39s 6d per cwt, good mixed 39s to 39s 6d per cwt, gut 34s to 36s 3d per cwt. Messrs A. H. Turnbull and Co. have received the following cablegram from their principals, W. Weddel and Co., Ltd., dated London, 2fth instant:—"Tallow market unchanged. At tallow auctions to-day 1500 casks were offered, of which 600 casks were sold." ~1 . Dalgety and Company, Limited, have received the following cablegram from their London office, dated September 25th: Tallow —At the weekly auction, 1825 casks were offered, of which 43 per cent, was sold. Prices unchanged. HAWARDEN MARKET. The Hawarden market yesterday _ was a very meagre affair, the entry consisting of four small pens of sheep, four head of cattle, five pigs, a horse, and a few sundries. The sales were: Eight fat ewes at 27s 9d, 35 ewes and 29 lambs at 17s, all counted; 10 forward wethers at 30s (25 passed in), two fat cows at £ls 12_s each, a Shorthorn cow springing to her third calf at £l2, bull £5 7s 6d, a store pig at 40s, and weaners at 25s and 265. The horse, a good-looking colt, failed to find a purchaser at the owner's value, the best offer being £7. KUALA KAMPAR TIN. There is a moderate New Zealand shareholding interest in Kuala Kampar tin fields. The company was formed to take over undertakings of three other companies. The report covers a period from May 16th, 1928, to March 31st, 1929. Net profit for that period was £IOO,IBB, to which is added £5102, being balance of profit _of £11,481 transferred by vendor companies for the period from April Ist to 15th, 1928, £6378 of that profit having been already placed to capital reserye. Of the total profit of £105,291, two dividends of 4s each and one of 6s absorbed £68,250, leaving £37,041 to be carried forward. The recovery of 1579 tons tin ore averaged 591b per cubic yard, and the average cost was 3.72 d. Value of tin ore won was £212,957, or £134 per ton. Capital is £58,248, and there is a capital reserve mentioned above of £6378. Creditors are owed £8629. Property, less £49,248 written off from the reserve account of the vendor companies, is valued at £363,444. Dredging plant is down at £179,750. Other assets include stores £20,917, tin ore £917, debtors £452, deposit and interest £32,333, loans at call £6300, and cash £2015. PROPERTY SALE. Ford and Hadfleld, Ltd., sold by public auction the property situated No. 256 Gloucester street, City, to Mr Bowie lor £875.
