Captain J ; C. Mercer piloted an aeroplane which paid a visit to Culverden and Waiau yesterday, taking him as a passenger on tne trip up Mr Cone. With a following Wind, th© journev up to Oulverden minutes, the aeroplane circling *>ver Waikari and Hawarden on tho way. A good landing; was made at Oulverden, the landing field being a splendid 60acre paddock. After a stay of about a quarter of an hour the return trip was commenced via Waiau, Mr Cursey being the passenger. Mr Mercer made a landing at Waiau, where a short stay •was made. The total time taken back to Christchurch was 1 hour 20 minutes, a good trip being experienced in spite of a steadv southerly head wind after passing Waikari. Captain Mercer «tated upon returning that unless the wind w;ts in the right quarter landing was difficult at Waiau. and this would be> considered before the final decision was made to visit Waiau to-morrow.
