UNEMPLOYMENT INSURANCE.

AUCKLAND EMPLOYERS* DISAPPROVAL. [THE PRESS Special Service.] AUCKLAND, September 26. Strong disapproval of # the introduction of unemployment insurance to New Zealand was expressed by speakers at the annual meeting of the Auckland Provincial Employers' Association. It was urged that the Association should protest against the Government adopting any legislation hurriedly. Mr .T. S. Dawes (vice-president) said there were indications that the Government would rush through legislation this session to set up a system of unemployment insurance. The question should be considered carefully, and no hurried steps should be taken. "It would be a most dangerous thing to introduce unemployment insurance," said the president (Mr A. Spencer). "It would cripple industry and would result in a great set-back. Industrial insurance should be the last resort in a young country like New Zealand." Mr A. G. Lunn said that instead of paying men to do nothing they could be set to work on areas of land awaiting cultivation. Mr G. Finn said he did not think a real effort had been made to solve the unemployment problem. "Unemployment insurance has ruined Great Britain," said Mr Finn. "If it is introduced to New Zealand, well, the sooner we get out of the country the better."
