STRANGE DIVORCE SUIT.

♦ EVIDENCE OF A COMPACT. [THIS PBESB Special Service.] AUCKLAND, September 26. A divorce suit in the hearing of which some extraordinary evidence was given was before the Supreme Court to-day. John Pereival Smith petitioned for divorce from Beatrice Smith, and Joseph Archibald McLean was named as corespondent. Evidence was given of an agreement between petitioner and co-respondent, by which Smith agreed to dispose of his home to McLean, and by which McLean should marry Mrs Smith after Smith had divorced her. In evidence, co-respondent admitted immorality and also admitted having made a compact with Smith, but he said also that he was not now willing to carry out the agreement. His Honour reserved judgment.
