MOTOR ACCIDENT.
BUS, CAR, AND CYCLE COLLIDE. A motor accident happened yesterday at Kaiapoi, happily without very serious result. A little after 9 a.m. a large motor-bus which runs from Oxford to Christchurch was coming into Kaiapoi with passengers, wlien a collision happened on the concrete bridge over the Cam river close to the Woolleu Mills. It is understood that a Ford ear, in an attempt to avoid a motor-cyclist swerved whilst on the bridge, and ran into the front wheel of the bus- This caused the bus, which was on its proper side, to lose steering way, and before it could be pulled up, it crashed into the side of the bridge, carried away one or two posts, and about 20 feet of railing, and stopped with part of the forecarriage and one wheel hanging over j the water. The bus pushed the motorcycle before it, and jammed it hard against the largo post at the end of the bridge. This post held firm, and it was this that saved the bus from going into the river. The car was badly damaged, losing a wheel among other things, whilst the motor-eyele was wrecked. The occupants of the car escaped with a few minor cuts, whilst the motor-cyclist, who scrambled out from amongst the wreckage was unhurt, but badly shaken. °The bus, from wheel marks, was on its proper side, and appears to have been skilfully handled in the emergency. None of the passengers suffered any injury, but some of the women received a bad fright.
