THE KING'S HEALTH.

CONTINUED PROGRESS. FAVOURABLE BULLBTW. (mou OTTB CW* COa&ZSFOHBXB?.} LONDON, August 23. The following bulletin was issued from Buckingham Palace on August 20 th:— The progress of his Majesty the King towards restoration of health continues. The wound is steadily dimufishing in size and is healing satisfactorily. His Majesty has derived benefit from breathing and other physical exercises. Both bodily and mental activity are now undertaken without undue fatigue. The King will be able to leave London for Sandringham in a few days. (Signed) STANLEY HEWETT. HUGH M. BIGBY. DAWSON OP PENN. The previous bulletin, which was issued on July 31st, announced that the wound occasioned by the operation on July 15th had begun to heaL At this operation portions of two ribs were removed in order that the abscess under the right ehest could be drained and the local trouble completely cured- The King has continued to make satisfactory progress since. The news of the anticipated early visit of the King gave great pleasure to the people of Sandringham when they heard it. The sudden cancellation of his visit in the second week in July was a great disappointment. For several weeks everything has been ready to receive the King at Sandringham House. A large marquee has been erected in the beautiful grounds in front of the house to shelter the King from the breezes which sometimes come stingingly off the Wash. There it is expected the King will spend many pleasant recuperative hours. It is anticipated that his Majesty will take considerable interest in the improvements which have been carried out during his absence for the comfort and convenience of the estate tenants and workpeople. An electrically worked gramophone has been placed in his Majegty's apartments, and there is also a wireless set. Electrical apparatus to enable him to continue the therapeutic treatment if it should be necessary has been installed. Even though the Bong be in residence, it will not prevent the grounds being thrown open to the public one day a week up to the end of September. Last week nearly 7000 people were admitted to see the lovely gardens and glasshouses. The King Holds a Cornell. On August 15th the King was present in person at a Privy Council at Buckingham Palace for the first time since iii« second operation. It is learnt that, although the aix Counsellors of State, appointed during the King's illness, still continue to function, mueh of their work has been taken over again by the King, and considerably fewer State documents and official paper* are being sent to the Counsellors. The Queen, the Prince of Wales, and the Dnke of York are the three members of the Boyal Family who are Counsellors of State.
