SUCCESSFUL FLIGHT.
♦ HOME-BUILT AEROPLANE. A successful trial was carried out on Tuesday at tha Wigram Aerodrome of a home-constructed aeroplane, built in Christchurch by Mr William Dini, a twenty-one-year-old enthusiast, of St. Albans street, St. Albans. Captain M. W. Buckley gave the machine its first flight, and on landing stated that it flew very well. Other pilots also have inspected the aeroplane, and express the opinion that it is a credit to its owner. Mr Dini worked on the building of the machine for ten weeks. He purchased the parts from America, and put them together in a shed at his home. It is a single-seater, very small, and with the engine, which weighs 1001b, has a total weight of 3001b. It is 16t't 9in in length, and the wing span is 25ft. The fuselage is built of steel tubing and covered with ordinary fabric. The engine is a Heath-Henderson, of fourcylinders, and is guaranteed to do 70 niiles per hour, while the landing speed is f?S miles per hour. The petrol consumption is about 40 miles to the gallon. The monoplane is a Heath Super-Parasol, and is the first, of ita kind seen in Xew Zealand, although many are seen in America.
