A serious blow has been dealt to the National forces operating against the rebel general, Chang Fa-kwei, in the vicinity of Ichang, on the upper Vangtse-kiang, resulting in the capture of two river transports and 5000 National troops. Three steamers laden with troops were dispatched up-river. They encountered heavy shell fire from the rebels, resulting in fifty Nationalists being killed and several hundred being wounded.
