Kitty Stewart, for drunkenness and breach of her prohibition order, was fined £2, Jin default seren days' imprisonment on Jie first charge, and £1 in default seven daya imprisonment on the second charge. A charge against Frederick James Palmer (Mr W R- Lascelles) of behaving in a disorderly manneT. was- dismissed. INCOM&TAX CASES. The Commissioner of Taxes (Mr A. W. Blown) proceeded against Matthew Arlow for failing to furnish an "turn. Mr Brown eaid that no extension of tin» had been asked for, by the defendant and the Government was proceeding after a lapse of four or five years. Arlow was fined £2 and costs. Michael Thomas Hall (Mr G. A. G. Oonnal) for failing to furnish a return of income was fined- £2 and costs, and Alexander Jack Halliburton was fined ±2 and costs. WATER IN MILK. Allan Edwards (Mr J. K. Moloney) was charged with seiiing milk containing added water. , . ~ Mr Brown said that a sample 01 the milk showed 10 per cent, of added water. The defendant received the milk in bottles from a large firm of suppliers. The percentage of water was extremely large. Mr Moloney said that the Act protected the public but there seemed to be no protection at all for the small trader. Defendant - wad fined £2 and costs. CRUELTY TO PIGS. William John West appeared on a charge of cruelly ill-treating three pigs. David James White, inspector for the S.P.C.A., said that the pigs were in a pen at the Addington Yards on September 11th. They had a piece of wire through their noses and the lesult was septic wounds. Whenever the pigs came into contact with each other they squealed. The accused had admitted that the wire had been on the pigs for about six weeks. His excuse was that the pigs were rooting up the sty. The wires were fastened through the noses with the heel-plates of boots. West was fined £3 and costs. TRAFFIC CASES. For driving a motor vehicle without a license, Thomas Hogg was fined £1 and costs, John rurcell 10s and costs, Robert Noble Pye £1 and costs, and Robert Harvey £1 and cost 3. t For overloading a motor-cycie, Charles Thome was fined £1 and costs.

KAIAPOI. (Before Mr E. C. Levvey, S.M.) Cecil Arthur Hensley, on eight charges of theft of overcoats, hats, and scarves, valued at £33 Is, from the Orange Hall, Kaiapoi, on the occasion of the Kaiapoi Football Club 8 social, pleaded guilty, and elected to be dealt with summarily. Accused was convicted and admitted to probation for three years. John W. Thompson, for driving a motorcycle without a motor-driver's license, was convicted and fined 10s. Judgment for plaintiff* by default was given in the following cases: —Fisher's, Kaiapoi v. R. P. Nelson, £3O lis; V. J. Chinnery v. S. D. Wilson, £ls 10s; J. Judson v S. Reuben, £l2 sa; J. Judson v. W. Taituha, £5 10s; J. McDougall v. W. Taituha, £3 12s.
