—<• RAXGIORA. Ken rick Bariiield had several fin-eis of bi3 left hand crushed in some machinery on Tuesday in the engineering works of Messrs Bristow and Co., Christchurch. He was removed to the Hospital, where two fingers were amputated at the middLe joint. The lad had juit started his apprenticeship with the firm that day. The committee of the North Canterbury Football Club met on Tuesday, Mr C. \V. Tyler presiding. Arrangements were made for the junior touring team to travel by bus to Temuka on October 4th. where a match will be played the next day. It was decided to send a letter of sympathy to Mr Jack Horrell, who is in the Christchurch Hospital. Messrs W. Thornton and V. Luisetti were appointed joint secretaries in connexion with the annual ball. The esnior B team were declared the winners of the Helmoro Cup, presented annually for the team gaining the highest number of points in any grade in the competitions. Mrs Isabella Cook died on Monday, She was a daughter of the late Mr Hamilton Smith, and was the last meml>er of the family. She came to Lyttelton with her "parents in the Himalaya in 1878, the family settling at Fernside, where she was married to the late Mr Henry Cook, making their home on the Oxford road, where she had resided for many rears. She leaves a large family. "The funeral which took place yesterday afternoon, was largely attended. The Rev. J. F. Feron conducted the service at the Anglican eemefcerv.

The miniature rifle club, shooting in a postal match with Sefton, won by 18 points. The weekly medal was won by A. Barclay, and a trophy given by Mrs W. D. Banks was won by J. 0. Duncan after shooting off with W. Hill, A. Barclay, Miss E. Hoff, L. Dasler, and R. Croft. In the last shoot for the season a postal match with Seafield was held and resulted in a win for Waiau by seven points. The ladies' bracelet was won by A. R. Cullen, nominated by Miss D. Jelfs, after shooting off with W. Hilt. L. Dasler, W. Jelfs, W. D. Banks T. H. Belton, J. Little, and 0. Davics. The weekly medal has been won on three occasions by W. DBanks, and now becomes his property. The medal was won twice by A. Barclay, L. Dasler. K. Foster, and Mrs Jelfs, and once by A. Cullen, O. Dav'es, C. I'sivitt, if. Chapman. J. Hill, Miss J. McKie, Miss K. Hoff. S. Merfield, P. McKie, Mrs Hoff, J. Duncan, and R. Groft. The season will 'finish to-morrow 'evening with a dance and the presentation of trophies. ■

Considerable interst is being manifested in the projected visit to the district, on Saturday of the Aero C'hrb's machines. The landing ground will be on the property of Mr W. D. Banks, the same as was used some years ago when flights were made in the district. ASHLEY BANK. On Tuesday evening the Rangiora Malo Voice Choir contributed a varied programme, Under the baton of Mr G, Gibbs-Jordan, in aid of the school funds. At the conclusion supper was served and a dance held, music being supplied bv Mrs J. A. Pctrie and Mr W. G. Mayer. The wathcr during the past week has been very mild, having a good effect on grass and crops, which were backward. The land is again workable and spring sowing is being pushed on. Lambs are very plentiful throughout the district, in some cases well over a hundred per cent, being obtained. A few were lost in the recent cold snap.

LINCOLN. The Bishop of Christcburch held a confirmation service in St. Stephen's Church on Tuesday evening. There was a very large congregation. Thirty candidates from all centres of the parish were presented by the vicar. It was a very impressive and inspiring service! A meeting of the ladies' basketball club wa3 held on Tuesday afternoon, Miss B. Taylor presiding. Mrs W. JHopley reported on the trip to Ashburton. It was decided to write to the St. Stephen's Club thanking it for the way it had entertained the team on it-s recent visit, tt was decided also to write thanking Mr W. J Parrett for the way m which he carried out the transport arrangements. Preliminary arrangements were made for holding* a wind-up social in October. A meeting of the Lincoln Debating Society was held on Monday,. Mr A. J. Smither presiding. The evening took the form of informal discussions-on various topics. Arrangements were made for the rehearsal of the mock court next week.

GREENDALE.

A cricket match was played on the Greendale Domain between Dovleston and Greendale, the visitors winning bv 19 runs. Scores: Dovleston 89 (Amvas 10. L. Ebert 17, Howatson 14): 'Greendale 70 <B. W. Shipley 15. L. J. Early 12. C. L. Ridgen 12>. Bowling tor Doyleston, H. Smith took four wickets and H. Dalley three, and for Greendale F. Cullen took five and E. H. Frew three.

Two hookey matches were played at Sheffield, when A* and B teams from the Ellesmere Ladies' Hockey Association met teams representing the Malvern Ladies' Association. The Malvern teams won both games, the A game by three goals to nil, and the B game by 11 goals to nil. The referees wtre Messrs Peril am and G. E. Dean. LITTLE RIVER. Mrs R. Bamford (Redcliffs) is the guest, of Mrs D. S. Sutherland. Mrs Chas. Reed and family hare returned to Christehurch after spending two months' holiday with Mrs W. Pidgeon. A euchre and dance in aid of the Little River Main Tennis Club was held in the Town Hall. The prizes were won by Miss Betty Barclay and Mrs A. Lowden and Messrs Len Londrigan 'nnd Jock Lewthwaite. A donee followed.
