EARTHQUAKE SHOCK.
(PBESS ASSOCUTIOB TSI.BO»AIt.) WELLINGTON, September 24. At 2.12 a.m. a sharp earthquake occurred, waking many people. The seismograph indicates that the tremor had a local origin, probably in Cook Strait, seventy or eighty miles from Wellington. Mr H. F. Skey, Director of the Magnetic Observatory, stated yesterday that the shock was not recorded on the instruments at Christchurch.
