SWIMMING.

FENDALTON CLUB. The ninth annual meeting of the F« ad niton Amateur Swimming Club was held last evening, Mr J. Mswson Stewart presiding over a goed attendance of members. In presenting the annual report, the chairman remarked on the successful position of the club, both financially and as regards the number of members. The official opening of the season was held on Saturday, November 24th, 1028, when the president (Mr J. Mawson Stewart) officiated, a pleasant afternoon being spent by members. Lewis Cup—This was won by Mr J. F. Berry, with G. Berry rnnner-up. The «T. Mswson Stewart Gap created keen competition, Mr It. Bpanes being the winner. Mr A, E>. Byrne's medal, for the runner• up in the Stewart Cup, was won by J, F. Berry, A highly successful inter-club carnival was held, the results surpassing; these ef past seasons. Besides the Harris Cop tornpetition several Canterbury junior championships were held. The takings, £22 3s, wrre considered a record for an open-air carnival. In order to swell the elnh's fnnds and ' build new dressing sheds, the club combined , with the School Committee to hold a gala ' day in the school grounds on Baturday, February 23rd, remitting in a net profit of £lB3, to be divided equally between the club and the Si jool Committee. Thsnks were due to Messrs 3 Mswson Stewart. CE. Cross and C. Jaraieson for their untiring work in helping to make it a sneeess. The following officers were elected;— Patron, Mr 6.
