WOMAN FOUND DROWNED.
VERDICT OF SUICIDE. A verdict of "suicide by drowning while in a depressed state of mind" was returned by the Coroner, Mr H. P. Lawry, at an inquest last evening into the death of a woman of 45 years of age, Martha Wright, of 246 Bexley road, New Brighton. She was found drowned in a flooded drain near her home yesterday morning. Evidence of identification was given by D avid Wright, the widower, who stated that his wife' had been in a low condition of health for some months past," suffering from nerves, for which trouble she had been treated by Dr. Mark Brown. He last saw her alive at 9 o'clock yesterday morning, when he left for the City. Beturning home at 11.30 he was told that a body had been found in the drain. He identified it as that of hia wife. Albert George Wright, son of the deceased, stated that he last saw his mother Talive at 10.20 in the morning, when she was hanging the washing on the line. She., was then in her usual state of health, and had had breakfast. Thomas Godfrey Powell, a dairyman, stated that at 10.30 a.m. he was passing along Bexley road when he saw the body of a woman, later identified as that of Mrs Wright, in the drain. He summoned Constable Henderson, who superintended the removal of the body to the morgue. Constable H. Henderson gave evidence that the woman was dead on his arrival. The drain, which was just over the road from Mrs Wright's home, was 7ft deep, and had in it 2 feet 6 inches of water. The Coroner then returned the beforementioned verdict.
