MEETING OF COMMITTEE. DETAILS DISCUSSED. The committee set up in connexion •with -the new Art gallery met on Saturday morning, when a number of important details were discussed. The meeting was attended by the Mayor (Mr J. K. Archer), who was appointed chairman, Messrs R. E. McDougall, Geo. Harper, J. A. Flesher, D. G. Sullivan, M.P., J. W. Beanland, P. W. Sharpe, and B. Wall work. In ■ reply to the committee's message advising him that his plan had been accepted, and asking if he intended to carry out the work personally, or appoint a local architect, Mr E. \V. Armstrong sent the following cable message from Rangoon:— "Please notify me regarding commencement. At present at Rangoon architect for £IOO,OOO university extension, and obliged to remain until completion of working drawings some three or four months hence." It was decided to forward the following reply to Mr Armstrong:— "Can you arrange to visit Christehurch immediately after your work at Rangoon is completed, and prepare working drawings here; also state how long before the working drawings will b« ready." The draft clause for insertion in the Washing-Up Bill, back to the Domains Board the original site, and transferring from the Board to the City Council, was read, and, with one or two slight amendments, it was approved. The plan of the new site was submitted, and examined, and approved. It was resolved to make enquiries from all quarters locally as to stone suitable for the building and as to the cost thereof; also to collect all information on the subject that would prove of service to the architect when he arrives. It was left to the chairman to call the committee together again when considered necessary.
