FAT CATTLE.

As * result of the high pr.ces ruling at recent Bales, there was a big showing of better Quality beef. Though numerically the sale was not big—there were 402 head yarded—this was compensated by the good •ntry of first quality sorts. Of these there were more than sufficient, the high prices at the last two sales bringing heavy entries frop outside. The result was that heavy steers were down by up to £2 10s P 8 * head, more in eases, while lighter sorts were down by up to £2 per head. There wa particularly prime line of 49 bullocks froir Palmerston North, which averaged £25 7s 6d a head, the top price for a pen of three being £27 17s 6d. This was a ljne of exceptional quality, and at prices ruling at the sales for the last two weeks they would have averaged quite £2B a head. Some S 00 <* lines were forward from the Peninsula and local fatten»re, and also from the West Coast and South Canterbury. The market finished well, the weakest period being over the first couple of races.
