AVON CLUB. ANNUAL MEETING, Thirty member* of the Avon Bowing Club gathered at list night's annual mßeting of the dub, the president, Mr C. Jamee, being in the chair. Lane and H. S. Frame, and the Walton Cup by li F. Batchelor and C. R. Kelly. Messrs F. Agassis and C. A. Stiles gained places in the Canterbury eight. Many of the club crews had also been successful in regatta races Out of 17 starts, club member* gained 4 firsts, 6 seconds, and S third*. During the season rowing had been seriously handicapped by the shallow state of the river. The new weir to be put in ought to improve the course considerably and would be appreciated by all rowing enthusiasts In moving the adoption of the annual report and balanoa-ehrot, tha president referred to the urgent necessity for mora members. In referenoe to the weir on the river, Mr R. E. Nightingale aaid there might be some delay in erecting it, though the preliminary work had already begun. It would be built in bays. The centre pane] would lift tip and down to permit of the passage td boats along the river, as it was not permitted by law to close the river. The report and balance-sheet were adopted. P. Mac Duff. The president, in returning thanks for ate re-election, said the sport of rowing was not going along as well as it might, but He wanted to see members stiqk to it. He was afraid that one of the sister olubs wa® not going to have a very good season and would need all the encouragement enthusiasts could givs it. Mr Nightingale stated that he had heard that the Akaroa dub would probably be revived if they could get the Akaras regatta gome again.
