STRUCK BY FALLING TREE
VERDICT AT INQUEST. A verdict of accidental death as the result of injuries received through being struck by a falling tree was found by the Coroner, Mr H. A. Young, at tne conclusion of the inquest into the death of Edward Day Scott Archer yesterday. Archer died at''the Christchurch Hospital on September 12th, after being admitted suffering from injuries sustained in an accident at Sedgmere.
Ivie MoGill, a farmer, of Sedgmere, said that he let a contract to Archer and two others to fell trees on his propertv. They started on July 9th, and on that day witness was told that an accident had occurred. He called in a doctor, and Archer was sent to the hospital.
R. # L. Roach, a labourer, who was working on shares with Archer, stated that he and another man, Gallop, had felled one tree, but it fell on to a branch of another. Meanwhile, Archer was_felling another, which dropped on to the branch supporting the first tree, and. snapped it. The first tree fell, and struck Archer. Witness said that Archer had had considerable experience in tree-felling.
