The campaigii for the progress of itie borough advanced another step at tkc special :uccting -if the Borough Cuum-il en Tuesday, when plans and specifications were authorised, and a committee get up to consider them. A conference with Mr H. M. Chrystall was held at the beach yesterday morning, the Mayor (Mr J. H. Shaw) and Crs. J. MeCreanor, S. Bargrove, and G. W. Bishop being present, and two sites wero selected for the proposed tepid salt water baths—in the enc,los>urcs south of the Pier, and on what is known as the railway site. Proximity to the Pier, to save overhead costs, it was thought, would be an advantage, but would necessitate the destruction of some of the enclosures. It is understood that the sites will be discussed ! at the Council meeting on Monday. It > is felt by th"e committee that such an] additional attraction should be pushed , forward to enable it to be completed in time for the coming season. The ] consent of the Local Loans Board will , have to be obtained, it was stated, before the project can be placed before the ratepayers.

The Mayor and Councillors have accepted the invitation of the Sumner Sports Committee to be present at the inter-borough Kugby football match at Sumner this afternoon, and subsequently at a social. Golf Links. The Christchureh City Council has made a start on the work of preparing the other nine holes of the recentlyopened Municipal Golf Links, while the local body has effected many improvements on the nine holes on the Eastern side It is satisfactory to know that new members are joining up every day, the membership now being well I over the 50 mark, and a considerable .•imouat has been collected in green fees. The Advisory Committee meets on Monday, when it is hoped that the ptaus for the temporary clubhouse will be considered. School Committee. At the monthly meeting of the Contal School Committee, Mr F. D. Muirson presided. The Education Board advised that, a- lawnmower would be supplied, for.the purpose of keeping the newly-acquired grounds in order. Also 100 maerocarpa trees for the school and 50 privet trees. The committee decided to adhere to the present term holidays. The headmaster reported that the time was opportune to reopen the question of the establishment of a District High School at New Brighton. Messrs Ainsworth. and Dean were appointed a visiting committee. Spring Flower Show. At the meeting of the joint committee of the Spring Flower Show, Mr F. 1). Muirson presided. It was agreed that the necessary crockery, etc., be secured. Mesdames Brooks and Bellamy were authorised to purchase flowers and plant! for the stall. The offer of Mrs !11. Bagg to marshal the exhibits was accepted with thanks; also the offer of Mr James Young to act as judge of the tlowers and plants. Donations of spring flowers, etc., were promised by Sir Heaton Bhodes, while Mr D. G. Sullivan, M.1"., signified his intention of being present at the show, which promises to be a great success. An Unwelcome Visitor. One of the Borough Council's staff while sweeping the side channels in Sea View road captured a male centipede eight inches in length. The reptile has been sent to the Museum. Bowling. The local club opens its season this afternoon, and a number of invitations have been sent out to residents and others to be present. The House Committee has made every preparation for the entertainment of the many guests who are expected. Personal. Mr A. W. Owles, who has been confined to his home through illness during the past ten days, is improving. Dr. W. E. Stevens, who has been laid aside through sickness, is recovering. The Town Clerk (Mr C. T. Middleton) is spending his annual holidays in the North Island. North Beach. The Osborne terrace Eeserve Committee of the North Beach Progress League met the chairman of reserves (Mr A. E. Lawry) at the reserve, and placed before him the League's suggestions for improvements. As a result of the suggestions made, a start has been made with the clearing of a space round the Reserve with a view to planting a shelter belt of Lombardy poplars on the west, north, and east sides. An endeavour is to be made to form a picnic ground at the south-east corner with entrances from Swan street and Osborne terrace. Arrangements are well in hand for Mrs Betty Sneesby's dance, to be held in the Memorial Hall. Mr Darragh, elocutionist, is to be present to add variety to the programme. Mr Tom Lewis, of Jubilee avenue, is Seriously ill in Lewisham Hospital. Mrs E. A. Leaver, who has been seriously ill in the Hospital, has been moved to the Bottle Lake Hospital. Mr Jack Scott, of Jubilee avenue, is still indisposed, and 'will be unable to represent North Beach in the annual Sumner-Brighton football match. Mr S. Stevens, of Kiccarton, has come to reside in Jubilee avenue. Mrs T. E. Thomson and her grandson, Teddy, havo gone to Greytown for a holiday. Mr J. K. Black has returned to North Beach after an extended holiday at Palmerwton North. Mrs K. Donovan and family, of Ilanmer, are staying at tho Ozone Cafe.

South Brighton. At the social evening held in the Sooth Brighton Hall, the prize-winners were.- Mesdames Weaver and Merret, and Mr Manhire. The Croquet Club's whist evening was held at the residence of Mr J. McLaehlan, Fisher street, on Thursday, anu a very enjoyable time was spent. The prize-winners were Mrs Grammer and Mrs E. Johnston. Mr and Mrs P. Glasson have taken up their residence in South Brighton. Mrs Gordon, Estuary road, has returned home and is slowly recovering from her operation.
