MINING REPORT RY MR FRANK JONES ON CORNISH POINT CO.'S CLAIM. * In giving a report on Cornish Point Mining Company's Claim, J may state that I have been in Central Otago all my life, and have been connected with dredging and all methods of mining for abont 30 years. The Cornish Point Syndicate is without a doubt operating on the old bed of the Kawarau River, and was unfortunate at the commencement of its operations to strike a hard reef bottom. It has been proven that the reef must be favourable, i.e., a soft bottom, to get good gold. I have no hesitation in jaying that when the Cornish Point Company gets on to a soft reef (and which may be struck at any time when work is resumed) they will get handsome returns. I personally visited the claim and was down the shaft and inspected the whole of the workings, and was very much impressed by what 1 saw. I predict a great future for the, claim. The syndicate has a 4in centrifugal pump, electrically driven, installed, and which is quite capable of more than keeping the ground clear of water. The wash is 7 to 8 feet in thickness and of a tight nature, and which will allow the ground to be worked without the use of much timbering. I have much pleasure in recommending this property to investors as a. sound mining venture, and which is quite on the cards to give as good returns as the famous Hartley and Riley Dredge which worked the river just below the outlet of the Cornish Point lead. (Signed) FRANK JONES, Dredgemaster. As the Cornish Point Mining Company's Claim started operations yesterday under the management of Mr R. C. Ruffin, well known in Australia and New Zealand mining circles, the shareholders will await with interest the predictions of all old miners and dredging experts that there is a rich lead of gold right through the Cornish Point Flat. The Permanent Board of Directors consists of Messrs H. Bicknell, J. A. Roche, E. W. Reeves, F. Fischer, T. H. Forster, J. Penny, and D. Hunter. The directors have decided to issue a limited number of shares up to August 20th, after which it is not intended to i issue any further contributing capital, as the amount now in hand is sufficient to carry on the development work required. The capital of the Company is composed of Is shares, 3d on application, 3d on allotment. It is not anticipated that more than 6d per share will be required. Prospectuses may be had from Fleming Laurenson or R. E. Hastie, secretary.
