SPREYDON SHOP ENTERED. Wakened by noises in the shop bej neath where he wag sleeping, Mr I. L. Hancock, a jgrocer, surprised two burglars who had gained entrance to his ! premises at 4 o'clock on Saturday morning. Apparently, Mr Hancock, in disturbing the intruders by raising the window sash of his upper-floor bedroom, saved himself considerable loss, as there was a fair sum of money in one of the drawers in the shop. The circumstances would seem to indicate that the intrusion was made by no amateur burglars, for thev were evidently well equipped for their task, and apparently had a motor-car waiting just around , the corner to facilitate their departure. The glass of the upper sash was broken indicating the manner in which they gained access to the window catch, but it was evident that an attempt had been made to open the bottom sash. A l.Tden shelf, fixed across this, foiled thfir efforts in this direction. When MY Hancock was awakened, he threw open his window, and leaning out. saw two men scramble out into the street through the window below, hurriedly making off into Lincoln road. They were wearing dark overcoats with caps pulled well down over their eyes. A few minutes later, he saw a touring far with the hood up pass the end of Lvttelton street, from the direction in which the intruders turned, travelling fast towards the Citj.
