CHRISTCHURCH CLUB. The first qualifying rounds of the three big events of the season were played at Shirley on Saturday, with the coarse to beary that good scoring was out of the question. Three plavers had gross scores of better than 80, and these were meritorious efforts under the difficult conditions. In conjunction with the qualifying rounds for the club championship, the Richards Cup and the Cox Cop stroke handicaps were played in both eenior
and junior divisions. In the senior division W. H. Cowper and K. W. Ballantvne tied with net 74's, and in the junior division a tie resulted between C. H. Smith and C. N. Fraser with set 77's. These ties will be decided later. In the first qualifying round for the chib championship, the best scores were:—
