DIVERSION NEAR CARLTON | BRIDGE. UNUSUAL PROCEDURE. Ordinarilv it is necessary for Parliament to sanction any propose* alterations or curtailments ot pubhe reserves, but in the present instance the same end is to be effected by the City-Council taking a part of the r.verbed undvr the Public Works Act and the Dramage Board, bv similar process, taking a portion of Hapley Park Ihe necessitv for this action is that the City Council desires to put the work in hand with as little delay as possible in order to relieve unemployment. Ihe public interest in the matter it is considered has been safeguarded owing to the fact that the Domains Board has approved of the proposed work and that the Minister for Lands has also approved. For the purpose of street widening 13.9 perches of riverbed is to be taken, and for the purpose of riverbed 15.4 perches of the park are to bo taken. In accordance with the requirements of the Public Works Act a plan of the lands proposed to be taken has been deposited in the public office of the Lands and Survey Department, Christchurch, where it is open for inspection by all persons during ordinary office hours. People who have well-grounded objections to the proposed work must set forth in writing their objections, but must do so within 40 days from July 25th.
