♦ • . LECKIE KNOCKED OUT. BADLY BEATEN BY SARRON. (TJMITK) FBESs ASSOCIATION —BY BMSCTSIC TELEGRAPH —COPYBIOHT.) (Received July 26th. 6.5 p.m.) SYDNEY, July 27. A stirring return fight between Johnnie Leckie (N.Z.) and Pete Sarron (U.S.A.) saw the last-named avenge his former defeat on points by knocking out the New Zealander in the thirteenth round. Sarron had the better of the bout all through, only Leckie'a wonderful grit staving off the end so long. He fell in the first round to a stiff ehortleft, but was up at once. Leckie'* eagnerness in the second round gave Sarron an .opening for a left-hook, which floored the New Zealander for eight. He needed a spell, but attacked immediately, to be floored again, though he had the satisfaction of seeing the American dovn momentarily. Leckie was at his best in the second and third rounds, when he had a shade the better on points. After that, the American had matters practically all his own way, and the New Zealander took heavy punishment, being down twio* in the eleventh. A battery of left hooks and right swings in the thirteenth finished Leckie, who was half through the ropes, helpless, but came back to be dropped by a smashing right to the chin.— Australian Press Association.
