TEACHERS' SALARIES.

NORTH CANTERBURY INSTITUTE'S VIEWS, At a general meeting of the North Canterbury branch of the New Zealand Educational Institute, called to discuss the new scale of salaries, the following resolution was arrived at:— "That this branch desires to express its approval of the principles involved in the suggested salary scheme, particularly those of efficiency and continuous increment, but is of the opinion that some adjustment is necessary, as investigation seems to show that there would be considerable reductions in some salaries. "This branch is further strongly of the opinion that in view of impending reorganisation with the necessary interaction of primary and secondary services, and in view also of the great and unjustifiable disparity now existing between primary and secondary salaries, a single salary scale should be adopted to include primary, technical, and secondary teachers.''
