ADDINGTON NOTES

Personal An enjoyable dance and social organised by the St. Mary's Sunday school teachers were held in the Dickens street hall. Novelty dances and competitions were held, the winners being Misses Dievert, Dendle, Cowlin, Walter, Giblett, and E. Dendle. Among those present were:—Mr and Mrs Saundera, Mr and Mrs o*Callaghan, Mr and Mrs O. Lester, Mejadames Downing, Hunter, Haneox, M. Lester, Hocking, Misses Braddick, Jeffery, Eichmond, Mathieson, Williamson, Ormandy, Thomas, Smyth, Wendelkin, Cleverley, Gabbott, Kennedy, Lester, Hocking, Ditfort, Clark, Adams, Molloy, K. Griffiths, E. Griffiths, Downing, Wilson, Brydon, Green, Colvin, Greenway, E. Bull, J. Bull, Hebden, Dendle, Shrimpton, Dievert, and Shaw. In honour of the twenty-first birthday of their daughter, Elsie, Mr and Mrs C. H. Sturrock entertained a large number of guests in the Selwyn street hall. An oak key was presented to Miss Sturrock by* her father. Dancing was held, items being given by Misses Norma Sturrock and Isabel McLean, and Mr and Mrs J. Sturrock. Competitions were won by T. E. Boberts, F. Morris, and S. Simpson. Addington School. A meeting of householders was held in the school on Monday evening to consider ways and means of raising funds to carry out improvements to the school and swimming bath and to defray the cost of the annual free picnie. Mr W. Coote presided over a small attendance. It was decided to organise a Qusen Carnival and the following were elected an Executive Committee:—Mrs Thrower and Messrs Barnett and Slcane, representing the School Committee, Miss Bowden and Messrs Shirlaw and MeGuigan, representing the teaching staff, and Mrs Hewitt and Messrs Clements and MeCracken, representing the householders, the chairman and secretary of the School Committee to be ex officio members. Addington Burgesses' Association. Laßt Monday evening the Addington Burgesses' Association held its monthly meeting, Mr W. H. Griffiths presiding ever a large attendance of members. New members elected were:—Mr L. Hamlin and Mr D. Bain. It was decided to write to the City Council pointing out the bad condition of Spencer and Collins streets. A motion of condolence was passed with Mr W. Pickering, a life member of the Association, in the loss of his sister. The Social Committee reported that a social evening held in aid of the Earthquake Belief Fund had resulted in a profit of £ll 6s 3d. The committee was accorded a vote of thanks for their good services, the chairman stating that they had shown that the residents of Addington were to the fore in relieving distress. Another social and dsnee have been arranged for Thursday, July 25th, also a social gathering on August Hrd to raise funds to help the Selwyit Kindergarten school. Addington Library. The monthly meeting of the committee of the Addington Public Library was held last Wednesday evening, Mr A. Heaven presiding. A motion of condolence was passed to Mr W. Pickering on the death of his sister. The secretary reported that a visit had been made by committee members to the opening of the Spreydon Library, and to the annual meeting of the Linwood Library. It was reported that the contractors had commenced on the extensions to the Library, whkh comprised adding a frontage 41ft by i ! .'f:. It was decided to place a temporary light on the corner of the building. Burgesses' Social. On Wednesday evening, despite the inclement weather, members and friends of the Addington Burgesses' Association journeyed down to Breeze's road hall and were entertained by the Aranui Burgesses' Association at a social and card evening.
