PORT AND CITY LEAGUE.
MEETING OF EXECUTIVE. The executive of the Port and City League met at the residence of Mr F. W. Freeman, Cashmere Hills, on Thursday. Present: Messrs F. W. Freeman (chairman), R. C. Abernethy, F. W. J. Boltoa, H. M. Chrystall, F. G. Dunn, A. L. Macfarlane, H. Kitson, and W. E. Ca.rey. Apologies were received from Messrs V. E. Hamilton, W. E. Lascelles, and J. E. Hayward. I A letter was received from the Canterbury Progress League inviting the League to send representatives to a conference to be held on the 24th inst. It was decided to accept the invitation. It was agreed to summon a general meeting towards the end of August, j when certain arrangements in regard to the establishment of the Commission and details of a membership campaign would be brought forward for discussion. I The secretary reported that there had I been a great demand for copies of the ! Tunnel Road Bulletin, and that the next issue would have to be substantially increased to comply with the demand. Ten copie. had been sent to al! the Borough and County Councils in Canterbury accompanied by a letter asking for comments and suggestions. The secretary also reported that he had received complete details of a recent case of the hold-up of cargo discharge in the port through the railway monopoly of transport, and it was proposed to give a full account of this aspect of the matter in the next issue of the Bulletin. The treasurer reported that to date donations had been received from 87 citizens. The financial statement showed cash in hand £ll 2s 4d, liabilities £l7.
