At St. Michael's Schoolroom on Thursday evening, au entertainment. •'Princess Chrysanthemum" will be given in aid of St. Saviour's Orphanages. The Canterbury Rugby Union Jubilee Ball will be held m the Winter Garden on August Ist. Half the tickets have already been sold, and the committee has definitely decided to close down when the specified number are sold. The final of the Godby Bowl Competition was played at the Shirley Links yesterday afternoon, between Miss Maberley Beadel and Miss Halmai Loughnan, Miss Beadel conceding 5 strpkes to her opponent. The game was grimly contested, Misa. Beadel being 1 up at the turn. She won LTpshot; Miss Loughnan won O'Rorke and the Pines, the later in 3, but Miss Beadel retaliated by winning Old Nick in 2. At the Pagoda green Miss Beadel was 1 up. The last two holes were halved, leaving Miss Beadel the winner, after a keen struggle, which demonstrated once more the accuracy of the L.G.U. Handicap system. MASQUERADE BALL. A very cheery and successful gathering was the annual masquerade ball of the Canterbury College School of Art, which was held last night in the Winter Garden. Many clever and original divertissement were introduced by the enterprising members of the committee, and the distribution of attractive novelties added to the picturesqueness of the scene. Just before supper a huge painted dragon, realistic in its ugliness, unexpectedly opened its mouth and disgorged a number of masquerading guests, who appeared to have sinister designs on their instructors! The Bailey-Marston Orchestra supplied the music and the members of the committee were Misses Ruth Turner, Betty Wishart, Mary Hogg, Ermyn Fitzway (hon. secretary -and treasurer), Messrs Leonard Booth, Alfred Webster, James Cook, and John Oakley (chairman)
