Earthquake Belief Fund. A public meeting was held in the Memorial Hall on Wednesday evening in connexion with the fund raised for the relief of the earthquake sufferers. It was reported that the sum of £149 5s 7d had been raised. It was decided to pay the money over to the Mayor's Fund. The chairman, Mr J. Eeynolds. said the result was very gratifying, and thanked all those who had assisted in the raising of the money. Missionary Auxiliary. There was a good attendance of members and visitors at the monthly meeting of the Papanui Women's Missionary Auxiliary. Mrs Hopper presided. The meeting took the form of a gift afternoon in aid of the Solomon Islands. An address on the work the Ausliary was doing for the women and children on the mission fields, was given by Sister Mabel Morley. Mrs Hopper and Mrs Elliott thanked the speaker. Items were given by Mrs S. H. Cox (pianoforte solo), Miss V. Black (vocal solo). Miss N. Cooper (violin solo), and Miss Webb (pianoforte solo). Domain Board. Tho Papanni Domain Board met at the Waimairi Council Chambers on Wednesday night. Present: Messrs F. W. Sisson (chairman), C. G. Derrett (secretary), J. Carrington, J. Munro, and W. J. Walter. A deputation from the Papanui Amateur Sports' Club, comprising Messrs A. E. Purse, R. Hill, and T. Grose, waited on the Board, asking that the track be put in order, and that an endeavour be made to have the grass mowed. The ehairman said the Board had had the horse-mower put in order, and the grass would be cut at regular intervals. The Board would endeavour to co-operate with the Sports Club in every way, and would call for tenders for the work of putting the track in order. Lodge Meetings. At the fortnightly meeting of the Loyal Papanui Lodge, M.U., N.G. Bro. A. W. Powell presided. After a discussion on the business for the special district meeting the delegates were instructed to vote in favour of the Actuary's recommendation. P.G. Bro. A. Dixon gave a report on the arrangements that had been made for the annual ball to be held next month, and P.G. Bro. W. R. Henderson reported on the opening of the branch lodge at Belfast. One candidate was initiated. N.G. Bro. J. Beagley presided over a large attendance at the meeting of the ' Loyal Papanui Juvenile Lodge, M.U. One candidate was initiated and one proposed. It was decided to hold a function in the Lodge room in August, the proceeds to be devoted to the Earthquake Relief Fund. At a well-attended meeting of Court Papanui, A.0.F., C.R. Bro. L. J. Gillespie presided. The sick visitor, Bro. F. E. Foote, reported visiting several of the sick brothers, who were progressing favourably. It was decided that after January Ist, 1930, the Court pay the sick and funeral contributions of members over 65 years of age. Bro. E. Rathgen, Past District Chief Ranger, presented a P.C.R.'s framed certificate and neck ribbon to Bro. Gen. Sey. I Immediate Past Chief Ranger. One new i member was initiated and two nominations were received. General News. j In connexion with the Canterbury, I Rugby Union's Jnbilee celebrations, the local club invite members and others j interested to attend the church parade. Those intending to be present are asked to assemble outside the Memo;1 ial Hall at 1.30 p.m. j The annual meeting of the Beautifying Association will be held in the Memorial Hall on Monday evening. j At the weekly meeting of the Meth- ! odist Girls' Club, Mrs Hopper gave a talk on "Influenza." and showed how poultices and fomentations were made. The last part of the evening was taken up with devotional studies. The screenings that have been spread on the paths in St. James' Park have been st, great boon during the wet weather. The levelling of the children's playground has been completed, and the surrounding banks have been planted with shrubs. The rihbonwoods arp the gift of Mr J. Bwtt, Watford street.
