WOOLSTON NOTES.
Personal. Mr J. C. I ; obson, Randolph street, has returned 10 his home from hospital. Bell's Creek. The complaints of a bad odour coming from Bell's creek, Kichardson terrace, were referred to the Drainage Board's inspector, who stated that the trouble was due to a gas tar tank leaking and discharging into the creek. The trouble had been remedied. Rural Drains. In its scheme for improving rural drains, the Drainage Board has decided to spend £IOOO on concreting the inverts to the outfall drain running from Ensor's road up Canal reserve as far as the expenditure will allow. This will be welcome news to the residents living in the vieinity of this drain, which has on occasions been very muddy and slimy. Ferry Road. The extremely muddy state of Ferry road from Ensor's road to Bamford street has caused great inconvenience to Woolston residents, while cyclists have been subjected to liberal showers through motors splashing through the pools of water which lie all over the road. It is doubtful if Ferry road has ever been in a worse state. Minor repairs have been carried out since the road was opened up to lay the sewer mains, but owing to the danger of breaking these mains, a roller cannot be used on the shingle laid. As the connexions to houses irom the main have yet to be made, no permanent work can be undertaken, but at least one portion of Ferry road, on the south side from Ensor's road to Smith street, could be properly laid down by the City Council, as the sewerage on this stretch is laid on the footpath. In some places, particularly at the Eadley tram section, north side, people alighting from cars are unable to avoid stepping into pools of water or slush-covered ground. Ferry road is in a shocking state, and is one of the most used roads around Christchurch. School Committee. Mr J. Radcliffe presided at the monthly meeting of the Woolston School Committee. It was decided to oppose any private schools getting dental service until such time as all State schools bad been provided for. It was decided to write to the Linwood avenue School Committee pointing out that its fetes to be held in December clashed with the Woolston dates.
