TO THE EDITO3 OP THE PRESS. gir,— l don't know if it has occurred to the Christchurch people who are interested in the "Waimakariri dam and power plant that to sink a large sum of money there is a risky thing to do. It is far too near the seat of earthquakes. All the severest earth movements have occurred there, or close to it, during my experience of 67 years. There was a very hart case at Hanmer Plains some time ago, and it was reported that big rocks foil out of the hills in the Waimakariri Gorge Yours, etc., E. SPEECHLY. Timaru, July 18th, 1929.
