SALVATION ARMY.
ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATIONS. The Salvation Army is at present celebrating its 46th anniversary, and on Saturday afternoon a special service, which was also in the nature of a reunion, was held in the Army Citadel, in Victoria square. Colonel Toomer, from Wellington, who was captain of the Christchurch Corps in 18S7. presided, and many an old time Army hymn was sung to the accompaniment of clapping hands. The Mayor CMr J. K. Archer) was also present, and delivered a brief address. He mentioned also that there were a number of visitors present from the earthquake stricken parts of the West Coast—he would not call them refugees because he did not like the word. They were much indebted to the Salvation Army for assistance in relieving the distress.
