AERO CLUB'S DANCE.

The Canterbury Aero Club, though it has not yet celebrated the first anniversary of its foundation, proved conclusively last night that it has "got its wings" in the realm of social entertainment. Its first dance, held in the Winter Garden, was an unqualified success—well organised, cheery, "and altogether thoroughly enjoyable. It was a happy coincidence that the dance should be held on the evening of the day on which Squadron-Leader Kingsford Smith established another world's record, for there can be no doubt that the visit of that intrepid pilot to Christchurch gave a great fillip to aviation in New Zealand. The Bailey-Marston Orchestra supplied the music, and a particularly lavish distribution of quaint caps, diminutive hats and gay balloons added to the general air of festivity. The members of the committee, who were complimented on the success of the dance, were Sir Francis Boys (president), Mesdames D. Clive Crozier, P. B. Climie, N. L. Yale, W. H. Williamson, Misses D. Tavender. M. Blamires, Messrs D. Clive Crozier, X. L. Vale, W. H. Williamson, K. Palmer, and P. K. Climie (honorary secretary). Lady Boys wore an elegant gown of black satin beaute and black georgette, with handsome jet ornaments and a spray of opalescent flowers and leaves on the corsage; Mrr David Croziers beautiful frock of black French georgette was lightened by large motifs of gold and red flswers appliqued at each side of the waistline; Mrs D. Clive Crozier wore an attractive frock of aubretia blue georgette with hem and inset bands of cyclamen tulle; Mrs P. j B. Climie's frock of lilac georgette was embroidered in conventional design with crystal beads and worn with a smart futuristic bridge coat; Mrs W. H. Williamson wore an ivory georgette frock lavishly embroidered with silver beads, and Miss M. Blamires wore a dainty frock of cyclamen georgette, with two-tiered scalloped skirt. Beautiful bouquets, fresh and Iragrant, and boxes of delectable chooolates were presented to Miss Marian Woodhouse and her pupils at the invitation song recital given Jast night in the Jellicoe Hall. Miss Woodhouse wore a handsome frock of black spotted silk net over black satin, witn diamente buckle heading a graceful pointed panel at one side; Miss Aileen Warren, who acted as accompanist, wore a delphinium blue French georgette dress, with embroidery of self colour silk, and crystal beads and a fringed shawl of begonia faconne; Miss Madeline Jennings wore carnation red georgette, the bodice being lightly embroidered with diamente, and the skirt veiled with deep red silk fringe. Miss Maggie Richardson's beautiful frock was of blue and silver brocade with long side panel held with an ornament of rhinestones and brilliants; Miss Belle Renaut, effective frock of geranium red georgette, the skirt, weighted with tiny frills, falling in long points; Mrs R. H. Henley wore an attractive frock of mignonette green ninon over crepe de chine beaded in crystal beads and finished with a gold flower on the shoulder; Miss Hazel Richards wore cyclamen taffeta with a large rose at one side at the waistline; Miss Lillian Church's frock of green georgette had I a brilliant buckle in front and shaded pink flower on the shoulder.

W.C.T.U. The usual fortnightly meeting of the Christehurch Branch of the W.C.T.U. was held on Wednesday. Miss Henderson presided. Votes of sympathy were passed to Mrs Seed, who has recently lost her son, and to the relatives of the late Mrs Crow. Thanks for sympathy were received from Miss Adams in trie illness of her mother. Temperance facts were read explaining the harm done by alcohol in the case of nervous diseases. Correspondence was read from Mr Annstrong. M P., promising to give his serious consideration to the proposals sent to him from the_ W.C.T.U Convention. Various satisfactory reports were received from the superintendents. Members were reminded that the next meeting would be held on T. E. Taylor Memorial Day. when the Rev. Gardner Miller will give an address. It was reported that a "Y" Branch had been formed in Christehurch North and three new branches in Otago. The meeting closed with the Benediction . BENEFIT DANCE. A benefit danoe in aid of th« West Coast Relief Fund will '~e held on Tuesday next at the Papanui Town Hall by Mr Reg. Stillwell's Dance Assembly. The dance will take the form of a carnival night and w;ll be under the patronage of the Mayor and the Citizens' Relief Committee. The following bands have offered their services : Messrs Fergusson's, Jackson's, and Bradford's. Entertaining novelties. twilight and confetti dances will be featured. Foxtrot and waits contests will be arranged. The gallerv will be available for spectators. A tram will leave Papanui at 1 a.m. for the convenience of City dancers. STILLWELL'S DANCE ASSEMBLY. A spotlight carnival dance will be "held to-morrow evening at the Caledonian Hall by Mr Reg. Stillwell's Dance Assembly. Special music will be supplied by two bands. The foxtrot contest will be continued. The gallery will be available for spectators.
