PERSONAL. (srzcux. TO TBS PRXBS.) GREYMOUTH, July 11. The Mayor of Greymouth (Mr J. W. Greenslade) has received official advice that the Governor-General and Lady Alice Fergusson propose to pay a visit next week to the West Coast and to those areas which suffered by the recent earthquake. They will arrive from Christchurch next Wednesday afternoon and will proceed on Thursday to Westport. Mr W. C. Carter, formerly on the train running staff at Greymouth, but now stationed at Tauranga, arrived today on holiday. Mr D. Baybutt, of Camptown, left this morning for Christchurch. Miss M. Burrell, who has been visiting relatives on the West Coast, returned to-day to Napier. Miss K. Greaney, who has been a patient at Lewisham Hospital, Christchurch, and her mother, Mrs J. Greaney, returned this afternoon from Christchurch. Mr Bradford, who is judging at the Hokitika Poultry Show to-mor-row, arrived this afternoon from Christchurch. Mr W. Brailsford, who has been spending a holiday with his sister in Nelson, returned to-day to Greymouth. Mrs W. A. Moar left this morning for Wellington, where her husband, Captain Moar, is ill. Brigadier Burton, of the Salvation Army, who has been assisting in the evacuation of Murchison and Seddonville, left this morning for Christchurch. He was accompanied by Mesdames McKellar and Bain, two of the Seddonville refugees. Mr Flett, postmaster at Westport, handed a member of his staff, Mr J. Prout, a gold watch, the gift of Mr F. Wood, of Westport, whose daughter Mr Prout heroically saved from the falling structure of the Post Office during the big earthquake on June 17th. Wedding. The wedding took place at the Presbyterian Church, Kumara, yesterday afternoon of Kathleen Frances, daughter of Mr and Mrs D. McLean, to John Francis, son of Mr and Mrs J. Laing, of Greymouth. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. T. N. Cuttle, of Greymouth. The bride wore a dress of white channeuse and silver lace with a wreath and veiL She was attended by her two sisters, who wore pale pink and pale blue lace frocks with net caps. Mr S. Meredith, of Greymouth, was best man. A reception was held in the Memorial Hall. Mr and Mrs Laing left by to-day's express for Christchureh and Dunedin on their honeymoon. Hockey. There were good attendances at each of the three ladies' hockey competition games yesterday. Besults were:— United A 4 v. Stars 0; Brunner 0 v. United B 0; Mawhera 8 v. Kokatahi 1; Bunanga forfeited to Hokitika. Bifle Shooting. The Grey Bifle Club closed its season yesterday with the sixth competition for Mr F. Badger's trophies. Rifleman W. Garth was the winner,
Rifleman G. Richardson being second. In the final shoot Rifleman W. Garth put on 99 off the rifle, the best shoot for the whole season. Besides winning the patron's trophy he won the championship with a grand total of 1136 for 12 shoots. He also won the handicap championship with a total of 11*1. Export Figures. For the four weeks ended June 22nd, the exports from the port of Greymoutu included 2,994,000 super feet of timber and 20,725 tons of coal (State mines 7716, Blackball 4108, Rapahoe 1322, Paparoa 977, Dobeon 6326, Castle Point 276). Hokitika Boxing Club. A meeting of the Hokitika Amateur Boxing and Gymnastic Club took place last evening, Mr F. McGregor presiding. Messrs C. Ferguson, N. Bowe, and J. Atkinson, being in attendance, were presented by the president with medals won at the tourney. Plunket Society. Nurse Spring, district Plunket nurse, reports that during the year now ended 1593 .visits were made to homes in Greymouth, and 1076 to homes at outstations. The number of babies visiting the Plunket rooms was 1570, and at ontstations 314. The places visited by the Plunket nurse were Hokitika (subbranch), Runanga (sub-branch), Reefton, Blackball, Otira, Ngahere, Ahaura, Stillwater, Taylorville, Dobson, Gladstone, Kumara, Waiuta, Ross, Hari Hari, and Waiho Gorge. The total revenue for the year from all sources was £1498 2s' 6d. Dental Clinic. With a view to providing additional finance to meet the increasing calls on the Main School dental clinic, a meeting of ladies was held this afternoon. Mr N. Scott, chairman of the Greymouth School Committee, presided. All present were constituted a committee to promote the object. It was decided to open a jumble shop on Saturday and to hold a monster fair early in August, it being hoped that the latter effort would produce sufficient finance to meet coming demands. Murchison Refugees. Ten of the residents who were evacuated from Murchison recently and removed to Canterbury returned this evening, leaving the express at Stillwater for Reefton.
