BELIEF WORK.
EMPLOYMENT FOR 1M IOK. Yesterday the Town Clerk received a latter from the Hon. Mr Etansotn. Minister for Public Works, dated July 6th, stating that on the previous day he had issued instructions for employment to be offered as early as possible to a farther 100 unemployed from Cbristchnrch on relief works in Canterbury; and in a telegram which he had received from the District Engineer that morning be had been advised that arrangements had been made for 20 men to be placed on the Snmxnit rood on Monday (July Bth). Tbe Postmaster-General, the Eton. Mr Donald, has also written to the Town Clerk as follows:—I beg to refer to a letter yoa addressed to toe Prime Minister on May 20th, enquiring when certain Government construction work in Christchurch would be proe<v*li»d with. *nd in rp-jjurd to *b enquiry conoeraing a post office, presumably in High street, I have to inform yoa that the preparations of the plan* and specifications are Hearing completion, and it is anticipated that tenders will be invited at an earfy date.
