The engagement is announced of Catherine, second daughter of Mr and Mrs J. Bruce, St. Andrew's terrace, Christehurch, and William, eldest son of Mr and Mrs W. McPhail, "Elderslie," Mitcham. In the Navy League Hall, the St. John Ambulance Brigade held a very successful and enjoyable social evening which was well attended by members of the nursing and ambulance divisions and corp& staff. The supper arrangements were in the capable hands of the Selwyn Nursing Division. Mrs Price played the piano for the dances. Mr Jackson gave a humorous monologue. A steel guitar and mandolin trio — Mesdames Edmonds and Robson and Mr Yeadon —played a selection which was much, appreciated, and had to respond to an enthusiastic encore. The annual meeting of the Plunket Society, which is to take the form of an "At Home," will be held in Dixieland to-night, when short addresses will be given by Dr. Derrick and Dr. Leslie Averill.
