HOUSE CONSTRUCTION.
FIGURES FOR HALF \B-4R. May saw remarkable activity in house construction, the City Council authorising the erection of 60 dwellings in that month. Since the beginning of the year the Council has issued permits for the construction of J!47 dwellings, or an average of 41 per month. NEW CHURCHES. THREE BEING BUILT. Constructed to a special design, tl*e new St. Andrew's Church at Culrerden is nenrinjz completion. It is of reinforced concrete, faced with Halswell bluestone, and with a slate roof and spire. Messrs Keir and Thompson, of Rangiora, are the builders. Commenced in 1384, the Phillinstown Anglican Church has been added to at various times, and Messrs Winsor and (ji-av now have the fin a', contract well on towards completion.
