A. YOUNG, 3218 Stipendiary Magistrate. j LOCAL BILL. proposed Bill or Ac ! intituled "THE CHRISTCHURC S ELECTRICITY EMPOWERING ACT, I 1929." PURSUANT to the Standing Orders o! the X. House of Representatives relating to Local Bills, the Christchurch City Council HEREBY GIVES NOTICE that application will ba made to the General Assembly of New Zealand in Parliament assembled at its present session for leaTe to introduce a Bill intituled The Christchurch Electricity Empower, ing Act 1929. The OBJECTS of the proposed Bill are to enable the Christchurch City Council to establish, invest, or otherwise deal with reserve funds for various purposes In connexion with the light and power undertaking carried on by the Council; also to facilitate the sale of lands acquired for street-widenueg or for the purposes of the Bald undertakings. Also to amend The City of Christchurch Electrical Power and .Loan Empowering Act 1902 with regard to the raising of Special Loana under the said Act. The said objects are to be attained by the following provisions:— _ 1. THAT the Christchurch City Council Jn any year after making provision for interest, sinking funds, and depreciation, may appropriate the balance or any part of the balance standing to the credit of the said Electrical undertaking in or towards the establishment of funds for all or any of the following purposes: — cover loss and damage caused by fire—I to meet claims for compensation for accidents- —to meet any deficiency In the Sinking Fund of any loan connected with the Electrical undertaking —for or towards carrying out the purposes of "The City of Christchurch Electric Power and Loan Act 1902"to provide for renewals and for depreciation—also for a general reserve fund. 2. THAT the Council may invest such funds in New Zealand Government (securities on deposit in any Bank—in New Zealand, in the Electrical Undertaking, in making advances to special loan account* (the advances hot to exceed the unroised portion of duly authorised loans), in the Common Fund of the Public Trust Office, or in any of such ways, or the Council may in the alternative appoint Commissioners to reeeive and invest such funds. 3. THAT the Council be empowered to sell without first making a Special Order, lands bought for street widening or for the purposes of the said Electrical Undertaking and not further required for such purposes. 4. THAT the City of Christchurch Electric Power and Loan Act 1902 be amended by repealing Section 8 and substituting therefor a fresh power of borrowing. A Copy of the proposed Bill is deposited in the Magistrate's Court, Christchurch, where it lies open to public inspection. Dated at Christchurch this Ist day of July, 1929. H. H.
