HARBOUR BOARD.
YESTERDAY'S MEETING. The Lyttelton Harbour Board met yesterday. Present: Messrs 11. Holland, M.P. (chairman), K. Galbraith, P. Horrell, J. Leslie, H. T. Armstrong, M.P., h. J. Howard, M.P., W. T. Les;er, J-'. H. Sutton, li. M. Chryslall, R. T. McMillan, W. J. Walter, F. Parthani, and Captain 11. Monio. The District Public Trustee advised that the late Mrs Sarah Ann Ensom had bequeathed £SO to the Sailors' Home, Lyttelton, for the general purposes of the faotue. The question of its use was referred U> the Sailors' Home Committee. The tender of Messrs Andersons, Ltd., was accepted for lengthening the ladder of the dredge Canterbury. A "truck load or so" of timber was asked for by the Kaiapoi Pines Beach Association, for use in development work. This and other requests for aid were deferred till the end of September, the end of the Board's financial year. The engineer's report sho-.ved that, uurmg the month, the dredge Canterbury had been engaged in the outer channel and turning basrn, whence it removed a total of 130,304 tons oi s'potl. During the same period the grab dredge Tewhaka had been chiefly encased in deepening the berth at the oil-tankers' -wharf and had also been v.-ovkir.-r at Xo. 3 jetty E and No. 3 jettv \V. The total quantity of spoil lifted was 5920 tor,*. Th<? chairman said members would be pleased to know that a new ladder was to be fixed to the dredge bo that it could reach a lower depth than 40 to 43 feet as that ■wos the depth of the harbour now.
