(fa»«S ASSOCIATION T'B-TIUM ) WELLINGTON, June 13. In a report to the Acclimatisation Society on native birds in the Western Sounds, Mr K. Sutherland says that kiwis are plentiful on the seashore betwoen Doubtful and George Sounds, but not inland. Wekas are numerous and kill stoat* and weasels, thug keeping this pest down. Kakapos, kea, kakaa, piggons, and other hirds are plentiful. The wonst enemy was the morepork, which in the absence of rat* and mice, has taken to eating small birds. The ■marrowa/T* ft° a .L ot of """chief. On the whole, Mr Sutherland considers that birds are quite as numerous as 45 years ago.
