AERO CLUB.
FIRST SOLO FLIGHTS. I MISS CLIFFORD AND MR ' NORMAN. Yesterday the first two solo flights Were made by pupils of the Canterkury Aero Club. Miss Aroha Clifford, one of the two pupils, is the first clubtramed woman pilot to go solo in New Zealand. Before long she should get •'ler "ticket," and will probably be the •econd woman in the Dominion to do ■o. She was preceded three years ago •by Mrs Gla<lys Sandford, who also warned to fly at Wigram Aerodrome. Miss Clifford and Mr R. W. Norman, the other soloist, both began their inttruntion under Captain J. C. Mercer 10 May 2nd and have been constant Attendants at tho Aerodrome for the last month. Miss Clifford went first tnd made several circuits of the Aerodrome. She made an excellent landing §«eh time. Both she and Mr Norman wto put in eight hours dual instruction before venturing up alone. Cap-, iain Mercer expressed himself very {leased with the flights. Both pupils ®*d shown themselves quite at home tthb air. Before long several other lila will bo ready for solo flying. «r putting in several hours solo flythe pupils will be ready for the >#*araination for their licenses and, acgjwnsc to Mr Mercer, should have no difficulty in getting them. They should f(>tn make very capable pilots.
