RECKLESS MOTORISTS.

TO THE BDITOH OT TUZ PFES3. Kir,--1 9 there something lacking in 'he mentality of some of the motoring fraternity, that they seem incapable of learning the lessons taught by the •'ourts as to the part that acgliccm-e •■"-I re<-kIc SS u C£s r ia V in the all-too-fre-'M'ent vehicular fatalities recorded bv tin; newspapers? This is the querv not - 1 ' a prejudiced pedestrian who cannot M-c any virtue in automobiles, cr in the ..rivers of the said "contraptions," but of one who himself is regularlv at the steering wheel; and it is prompted by the culpable carele.ssucss—not to use a stronger term—of a car-driver whom the writer had occasion to pass this mommy en route to the City. The scene of the incident was a well-known dangerous corner of the concrete road near the Belfast Hotel—a spot which has already been the scene of one sad fatality; the time, about 10 a.m. Tn order to pass a horse-drawn dray which the country-bound motorist was overtaking, and with which the writer's car was nearly on a level—the other car at tht; moment being fully a chain away—the speed fiend deliberately accelerated his speed so as to pass between the two vehicles he was approaching. This he did at not a fraction less than 40 miles an hour, practically forcing the writer's c;»r off the concrete, and all but involving the two ears in a collision which ' must have ended fatally for somebody. As there were several children aboard the writer's car, you can imagine, Sir, his feelings, to which, parson though he was, ho gave forcible expression. Can nothing be done to check these crazy speedersl— Yours, etc., A COUNTRY PARSON. May 20th.
