PORT AND CITY LEAGUE.
A special meeting of the Port and City Leaguo was held on Saturdiy evening at the residence of Mr P. W. Freeman, Cashmere mils, and was attended by Messrs P. W. Freeman (chairman), H. M. Chrystali (organising secretary), P. O. Dunn (treasurer), R. C. Abernethy, J. R. Hayward, V. B. Hamilton, F. W. J. Belton, W. B. Lascelles, W. R. Carey, A. L. Macfarlane, and H Kitaon. Mr Freeman reported in connexion with the recent conference convened by the Transport Committee of the Progress League to discuss arrangements at the Christehnrch goods sheds, ond it was decided after considerable discussion and criticism of the Progress.-League's proposals, to endeavour to arange to meet Mr Sterling and place the Port and City League's views before Mr Sterling, as well as to draw his special attention to the contents of the minority report brought down at the same time the Progress Leajue prepared their report Numerous further cases of delays and embarrassment to the present trade facilities were reported and recorded in the League's records reedy for submission to the Commission. Mr Freeman also submitted a scheme for the revision of the electoral areas as in force for the Harbour Hoard election, and it was decided to consider this matter farther. On the motion of Mr Carey, seconded by Mr Hamilton, it was decided to write to the Mayor asking him if he would place the mater of the Commission for the tunnel road before the new Council and the Finance Committee so that ways and means Could be discussed before framing the estimates for the year. The secretary reported that the enrolment of members was proceeding satisfatorily. Accounts totalling £4B 4s were passed for payment, and the treasurer submitted a financial statement and fore".a»t of estimated expenditure.
