JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIPS. PROGRESS OF TOURNAMENT. (PBESS ASSOCIATIOK tKUOBI* ) WELLINGTON, May 17. The National Junior Tennis Championships Tournament was continued to-day on the covered courts of the Wellington Winter Show Association. In view of the general satisfaction expressed by competitors it has been decided to play the tournament to its conclusion on these courts rather than make a move to the Association courts at Aliramar. At the end of to-day's play in the boys' singles, E. Roussell (Wellington) entered the semi-final stage. For the right also to do so R. Brownlee (Auckland) will P' a y H. R. ilscott (Came, bury), J. B r ?«iley (Wanganui) will play M. Ferkins (Welling* ton), and R. Alilne (Auckland) will play W. G. Robertson (South Canterbury). In the girls' singles D. Miller and M. Purcell (Wanganui) and I. Morrison (Canterburv) have entered the semi-finals, and Jean \V:ird (Taranaki) will play against I, Poole i Canterbury) for the right to do so. The finalists in the boys' doubles are R-ousseJl and Ferkins (Wellington) v. Biownlee and Milne (Auckland). The semi-finalists in the girls' doubles are Misses Jean and Joan Ward (Taranaki). Poole and Mathieson (Canterbury). Purcell and Longmore (Wahganui), and M. Howe and King (Wellington). Those in the last eight in the combined doubles are Robertson and Sutherland (South Canterbury), Smith and Hootton (Auckland), Chapman and Praser (Otago), Roussell and King (Wellington), Long and Tipping (Canterbury), and Coombe and Sorby (Wairarapa). For the right to enter the last eight Dickie and Jean Ward (Taranaki) have to play Milne and Chambers (Auckland), and Weheipuhana (Maori) and Burns (Wellington) to play Bindley and Longmore (Wanganui). _ The standard of tennis displayed is hish. The finalists in the boys' singles are likely to be W. G. Robertson < South Canterbury) and G. Roussell Wellington), with the odds in favour of Robertson. It seems certain that the girl finalists will be M Purcell (Wanganui) and I. Morrison 'Canterbury). From the point of view of strokes, court Positions, temperament, and agiHtv Miss Morrison is probablv tlie finest iun'or girl player seen in Wellington. She has fhe makings of a real champion. Her opponents havr* won larpely on her errors, mainly over the side lines in going for winning shots, rather than in any marked skil" or aggressiveness of their own. goes for the v'nner every time and hits hard and clean. Alias Purcell is of the stea-dy, careful-placing tvpe. and in that stvle she ha« so far shown iitrself supreme. Roussell and Ferkins achieved a great performance when they beat Robertson (South Canterbury) and his partner Gallagher 'North Otago). and they should wii. the final ssrainst Milne and Brown'ee, of Auckland. Milne and Ferkins are lefthmders. The girls' doubles and fhe combined doubles are too open to decide before hand. Miss?s Purcell and Longmore have the b"st chance on their steadiness in the girls' doubles. Inter-Island Representatives. The following boys and girls have been chosen by the selectors -Messrs J. A.
