VOTES FOR COUNCIL. MR F. R. COOKE ELECTED. SEVEN CANDIDATES ELIMINATED It is anticipated that the counting of the votes cast for the City Council election will be completed some time to-day, good progress having been made yesterday. Following the distribution of the accumulated surplus votes of Mrs Mo Combs, Mr F. R. Cooke (Labour) was elected to the eighth place on the City Council. Mr Cooke was allotted 511 votes from Mrs McCombs, making his total 2037, or 302 in excess of the necessary quota of 1735. The following Councillors have now been elected:— E. H. Andrews (C.) J. W Beanland (C.) A. W. Beaven (C.) J. A. Flesher (C.) M. E. Lvons (C.) Mrs E. R. McCombs (L.) D. G. Sullivan (L.) F. R. Cooke (L.). Seven candidates were eliminated during the day as follows: —Stringer at the tenth count, Roberta at the eighteenth, Bailey at the 27th, Manhire at the fiftieth, Macfarlane at the sixtysecond, and Stillwell at the eightysecond. Robson was also eliminated. Up to the present 103 counts have been made, 181 papers have been exhausted, and 224 papers lost in fractions. POLLING TO-MORROW. Considerable interest is being taken in the County Council elections, a nnny ber of which take place to-morrow. Four nominations have been received for the office of member of the Lyttelton Harbour Board for the combined district of the Counties of Paparua, Tawera, Malvern, Selwyn, Ellesmere, Springs, B&tawelL and Heathcote. The nominations are as follows: Judd, George Henry. Leslie, James. McAlpine, Kenneth Waiter. McMillan, Robert. For the combined district of the counties of Kowai, Ashley, Waipara, Amuri, and Cheviot, there are two candidates for one vacancy: Frederick Horrell. Arthur Konald Turnbull. The polling hours throughout the district will be 9 a.m. to 6 p,m. Selwyn. For the three vacancies on the Selwyn County Council for the Rakaia Biding the following have been nominated: Andrew, Frederick James. Brown, Norman James. Inch, William John. Watson have been re-elected unopposed as Greenpark riding members on the Springs Council, bat for the Springston Biding three new candidates have entered the field to contest the four seats with the sitting members, Messrs J. S. Simpson, P. V. Bailey, E, H. Rowell. and J. H. Williams. The new candidates are Messrs J. W. Kime, W. G. Shackel, and J. F. Hill. Messrs J. W. Kime and E. H.
