Steady week-end rains are breaking a long dry spell and relieving the farmers' anxiety. The rain has, however, transformed the roads into veritable death traps for motorists, of whom many had their first experience of wet At least 14 have been killed, owing to skidding due to rain mixing with thick grease deposits left during the dry spell. Many new drivers received the first warning of a skid when they found themselves ditched. The Duke of York, when going to London, collided with a motor-cycle and side-car. The impact was fortunately slight and both vehicles were little damaged. The Duke was able to continue his journey.—United Service.
