CRICKET.

NEXT AUSTRALIAN TEAM. ARTHUR MAILEY'S VIEWS. [THE PRESS Special SerrfM-d AUCKLAND, May 6. '•Australia's greatest need when the time comes to send the next Australian team Home to England will be young players of class.'' This was the opinion expressed this morning by Arthur Mailey, tne wellknown Australian cricketer, who is likewise well known as a. writer, and black and white artist. Last season Mailey did not play in big cricket, but he followed the games with the English team closely as a critic. He said that the best feature from the Australian point of view was the success of the colts Bradman, Jackson, and Wall, who were all likely to be chosen when the next touring Australian team was selected. In a lean period when the great need was bowlers of class, Wall was a distinct rind as a promising fast bowler. He was quite fast, with an art>on reminiscent of McDonald, the noted Australian bowler of pace, and probably would train on to fill the gap which was left by the retirement of Gregory from first-class cricket. He said that although diverse in style as batsmen Bradman and Jackson had proved themselves of the right temperament for big occasions and much was hoped of them. Mailey considers that the nest Australian team should be chosen by two selectors and the captain, and that on an English tour the sending of a treasurer in addition to a manager would be unnecessary. He considered that it would be better to send an extra player, preferably one with some financial experience. The amount of £OOO proposed as the remuneration of the players he considered was little enough. Mailey is on his way to Vancouver on a health trip.
