Ladies and Gentlemen, — To-day, more than ever before in the history of the Port of Lytteiton and ii veicpment, it is necessary to elect Harbour Beard members who know the por; and its possibilities. They must be ai«n, too. who can see means of improving our Harbc.tr service and facilities without iend.cg themselves to expensive programmes. It is on these grounds that wa as* for your support in the present Harbour Board election. Each of us has had actual experience on local bodies, wc are prinjary producers, and in touch with primary producers and other* liaving business witb the Port,. We have a first-hand knowledge of existing conditions and requirements, together with a strong determination to oppose extravagant expenditure. Various important questions will confront the Board presently, involving iarge sums of money which you will be expected to find. Gur experience will aid in securing etPciency and progress without paying too dearly tor them. Transport facilities between the Port and Christchurch are ;n need of improvement. We all know that. More shed accommodation will have to be provided, and it may be necessary to install a wool-dumping plant to expedite the working of the Port. This will relieve the truck shortage, a matter in which producers and importers are equally inter es:ted. and you can depend upon our sthvine to keep the Port uF-t-o-date without added taxation. We feel that the electrification of the Lyt-te't-on-Christchurch railway 19 going to help in the working of Port traffic, and we are of opinion that good results would be obtained if the port railway line were worked as though it were actually a part of the Port service, which in effect it is The Railway Department can man this railway with picked men wbo will feel that Iheu interests are the Port interests, co-ordin-ating all the various service* and removing any obstacles now existing. This must prove a wonderful help and a aaving of time and money. Practical men on the Harbcur Board mean a quickened Canterbury, and we confidently ask for an opportunity to work a further term in your interests. WEDNESDAY, Bth May, is Polling Dav.
