HUNTSMAN KILLED.
I THROWN FROM HORSE. I TRAGEDY AT WAITAWA. (SFKCIAL TO THE MESS.) TTMARU, May 5. The South Canterbury Hunt Club's Meeting at WaitaWa, near Levels, on Saturday afternoon, was marred by a tragedy, when the whip, Mr James McDonald, a single man, aged 24 jears, of Woodbury, met his deatli as the. result of his horse fouling a fence and throwing his rider heavily. The hunt was in full cry, and the huntsman and the whip were riding across a paddock, when they came to a netting The huntsman negotiated it safely, but Mr McDonald's horse half rose and crashed into the fence the rider being thrown heavily on to his head and receiving a broken neck. Dr. G. R. Kingston was sent for, but on his arrival could only pronounce life to be extinct. Mr McDonald was a popular sportsman and his untimely death is regretted by his fellow members of the South Canterbury Hunt, and a large circle of his friends. It was his first season as whip, and he was shaping well in that capacity.
